“World-class partnership for subcontracting of machining services” – Finnish machining expert Komas acquires two Fortaco units

The Jyväskylä-based Komas Oy and Fortaco Oy have signed an agreement regarding a business acquisition involving the transfer of Fortaco’s machining businesses in Härmä and Sastamala, Finland, to Komas Oy during Q3 2016. With the acquisition, Komas wants to strengthen its position as the leading subcontractor for machining services. Fortaco will become a minority shareholder of Komas. The parties do not disclose the purchase price. Komas will start an investment programme aiming to reach the world-class level in the subcontracting business.

“Our customers represent the world’s top in their fields, and a top-performing supply chain gives them flexibility, delivery capability and competitive advantage. We want to create a world-class partner in Finnish subcontracting market and investments are an essential part of this strategy. We will start discussions with our key customers in order to have ideas and contribution to our investment program”, says Antti Jokitalo, managing director of Komas.

The recipe of Komas towards world-class partner is clear: faster response and delivery times, 100% quality, flexible capacity utilization and effective introduction of new products.
“A world-class subcontractor improves actively the cost-effectiveness of customers’ products in serial production while also serving their spare part and maintenance needs with efficient small batch deliveries”, Mr. Jokitalo explains.

With the acquisition, the turnover of Komas will rise to about EUR 50 million. The number of personnel will increase by 120 experts to a total of 350 employees. In addition to production personnel, employees from sales and purchasing will also be transferred to Komas as old employees.

The Härmä and Sastamala units will expand the Komas portfolio of services towards larger and more demanding shaft-like and prismatic components. “We are actively looking for investment opportunities in order to gain revenue growth for all of our business units. Fortaco becoming a minority shareholder and partner will support these targets very well”, Mr. Jokitalo says.
